Cell biology is introduced from a molecular viewpoint, with topics including structure and dynamics of biomembranes, membrane transport, protein synthesis, endo/exo cytosis, the cytoskeleton, and cell-cell communication. The structure and function of DNA and RNA is also introduced. The basic elements of Mendelian Genetics with ramifications in modern biology are explored. The microbiology component covers an overview of microbial life and major discovery milestones, microbial diversity and phylogeny, microbial cytology and morphology, microbial nutrition and growth, bacterial genetics, viruses and retroviruses, host immunity and epidemiology. |
