This module introduces basic ecological concepts, urban ecology and the influence of climate change and tectonics in shaping the present. A description of the major world biomes is given and ecological adaptations to the environment, life cycles and strategies, migration and dispersal in space and time, and survey techniques are discussed. Aquatic ecology covers the characteristics and dynamics of freshwater, marine and estuarine ecosystems. The environmental component of the module deals with the current major environmental issues, emphasizing on resource use, pollution and environmental impacts. Aspects of environmental sustainability are highlighted. |
