This module will provide an overview of the biology, ecology, and classification of insect pathogens, predators and parasitoids, and will discuss the use of these organisms in plant protection, including an emphasis on genetic alteration of natural enemies. The major groups including fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes, and other plant pathogens will be introduced. Plant diseases biotic and abiotic, their diagnosis, and their management will be studied. Other topics covered will be disease cycles, plant disease epidemiology, disease forecasting, and the principles and practices of plant disease management including pesticides and pest control. Regulation of biotechnology for plant protection will also be introduced. |
