Natural and human-induced environmental hazards are becoming more and more prominent. Phenomena such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, drought, wildfires, pest plagues, air and water pollution cause extensive losses to livelihoods and property, and claim many lives. This module deals with the types of hazards: hydrometeorological, geological, biological, technological, and conflict-induced. Environmental change/degradation, the science of resilience and vulnerability of socio-ecological systems, early warning and preparedness, and disaster management are major themes discussed. |
