This module overviews the foundations of animal behaviour. Topics will include mechanisms underlying behaviour and its development, animal perception, biological time-keeping, learning behaviour. The module will also focus on sociobiology including basic concepts, altruism, social mechanisms such as communication, aggression, social spacing, mating systems, parental care and investment as well as examples of social species (insects and primates). The bioethics component will include topics such as interactions of humans with the natural world, biomedical topics, biotechnology, and ethical isuues related to research methods . |
