In this module, the focus will be essentially on issues of the contemporary. This implies a close understanding of key postmodern thinkers like Lyotard, Baudrillard, Jameson, Deleuze and Guattari amongst others. Besides this theoretical standpoint, a novelistic stance will also be necessary. Basically, students will be expected to read a variety of contemporary publications (Banks, Barnes, Rushdie, Mc Ewan, etc) and understand the key issues of postmodernism - capitalism, schizophrenia, millenial anxiety, etc. Applied theory will also be expected at this stage. |
