Description
This module will consist of an introduction to the history of architecture and techniques of construction involving studies of materials used for built heritage; introduce architectural vocabulary of the historic buildings and their understanding. Different construction techniques and technologies used in different time periods in history with focus on 16th to 19th centuries. Use of materials and their properties (in Mauritian context). Topics include: Introduction to historic buildings, History of Architecture, Building Materials Use and characteristics, Timber; Brick; Stone; Lime Mortars, Renders and Decorative Finishes; construction involving studies of materials used for built heritage; introduce architectural vocabulary of the historic buildings and their understanding. Different construction techniques and technologies used in different time periods in history with focus on 16th to 19th centuries. Use of materials and their properties (in Mauritian context). Topics include: Introduction to historic buildings, History of Architecture, Building Materials Use and characteristics, Timber; Brick; Stone; Lime Mortars, Renders and Decorative Finishes; Art: an overview of History of art from Renaissance to Modern times involving main masterpieces of drawing, painting, sculpture in reference to architecture; the history of fabrication techniques (jewellery, costume, drawing, painting, sculpture); ‘ethno-architecture’ etc.
