| This module will introduce students to dramatists ranging from Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes to William Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, and Christopher Marlowe. A selection of plays by Anton Chekhov, Henrik Ibsen, August Strindberg, Richard Sheridan as well as Bertolt Brecht, Bernard Shaw, and Eugene O'Neill will also provide the ground for investigation. Plays will be selected for the study of the different types of dramatic structure/genre and their historical and cultural contexts will be examined to demonstrate the correlation between drama and concerns of their time. |
