The aim of this module is to explore the extant literature that describes and discusses Mauritius from a literary, linguistic and a Cultural Studies perspective. In the first part of the module, we will investigate the way in which various literary texts have imagined Mauritius. In the second part of the module, we will explore the recent empirical literature that engages with the complexities of the language situation in Mauritius. In the third part of the module, we will discuss key scholarly works that examine the cultural fabric of Mauritius using contemporary critical theory and ethnographic tools.
