Description
This course is designed to introduce students to the literature of one of the most prominent institutions studied within political science: Electoral Systems. Electoral laws and systems will be examined and compared, including the US, South America, Eastern and Western Europe, Asia and Africa. Interaction between party institutionalization and electoral rules will be examined. Electoral systems and systemic variables will be evaluated. Emphasis will be laid on methodological techniques currently available to study elections/ electoral systems, such as ecological inference, multilevel modelling and Monte Carlo simulation methods
