Description
This module outlines the central themes in the history and evolution of Human Rights. Students will be introduced to theoretical debates within the field and requested to analyse case studies and fully understand the challenges faced in defending, protecting and promoting human rights in contemporary society. Foundations: what are human rights? Terminology and conceptualisation. (Philosophical, Political and Legal approaches). Historical development of international human rights. Different forms of human rights violations. Evaluation of the political and legal structures to addressing Human Rights violations at the local, regional and international levels.
