Description
This module surveys and critically engages with the establishment, development and impact of slavery and indenture system in Mauritius and their legacies. This includes issues of compensation, marginalization and findings and recommendations of the Truth and Justice Commission. It then examines the process of memorialization of the slave and indentured heritage and the attendant issues that arise from it such as during annual commemorations, the listing of local, national and World heritage sites and of intangible heritage, links to the community, concepts of shared history and heritage.
