This introductory module in English language and linguistics aims to familiarise students with
principles in general linguistics and to provide students with an overall picture of what a language is,
how it works and what its main structures are. Over the course of two semesters, students will, in the
first instance, be introduced to key themes in the field of linguistics such as syntax, phonetics,
semantics and pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and language acquisition. This module also aims to
develop their academic reading and writing skills, as well as other academic skills. |
