Description
This module aims to introduce students to perspectives on a key generic aspect in the history of English literature: fictional prose writing. From the birth of the genre to the Modernist Period, through the Age of Sensibility and the Gothic, Romantic and Victorian periods, the module examines the defining periods in English novel writing, focusing on novels authored by prominent English writers from the 18th to the early 20th century. Students will be invited to reflect on the nature of fictional 12 ŠUniversity of Mauritius, 2017 prose and its relationship with the historical, cultural and socio-political context from which it emerges, as well as the role of the writer and reader in meaning-making.
