Description
Introduction to index numbers .Uses. Laspeyres and Paasche. and the relative merits of each. Further index numbers – Törnqvist, Walsh, Fisher and Geometric Laspeyres. Index aggregation. Deflation. Re-basing. Chain Indices. Introduction to economic and social indicators. Definition and examples: Indicators of development, poverty and inequality. Construction of indicators: simple v/s composite. Variables selection. Problems of aggregation and choice of weight. Use of multivariate analysis.
