Conceptual framework for food security policies. Food policy: definition, scope, policy-making and evaluation process. Food legislation, strategies and action plans for food security. Multi and trans-sectoral approach. Participatory decision-making. Key actors. Challenges and opportunities in food security policies and policy-making. Community involvement. Pro-poor policies and actions. SADC policies. Role of policy formulation, implementation, and review in providing a framework for sustainable development. Institutional frameworks. Case studies on different systems and solutions to problems related to food supply, food quality, poverty, and gender issues. Multilateral trade rules and food security. Effect of globalization on food trade. Global agri-food value chains and impact on food security. Interconnected regional and global food systems and food security. Impact of food multinationals on livelihood of local producers in developing countries. Opportunities for regional and global integration of local agri-food producers, processors, and other actors.
