Description
Principles of managing animals in typical production systems for biological and economic sustainability: poultry (broiler and layer chicken), pigs; rabbits; goats and sheep; beef, deer and dairy cows and novel species. Best management practices for consistent, efficient and profitable production to ensure food security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions: nutrition, reproduction fertility, housing and equipment, heat stress, animal waste and manure management technologies. Specific requirements for the welfare of main food producing ruminants and non-ruminants. Assessment of animal welfare status in an animal production setting. Disease causing organisms. Mode of disease transmission. Major pests (e.g., internal and external parasistes) and diseases of farm animals. Fundamental principles of prevention and control of farm animal disease. Management of disease risks. Principles of vaccination. Animal health management schemes for various farm animals. Veterinary Public health and food borne and zoonootic diseases. Disease surveillance.
