Description
This module will encourage students to investigate the reception and appropriation of Shakespeare in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Themes and methods in Cultural Studies will be used. They will be invited to appropriate or deconstruct the prescribed plays from the stance of Feminism, Postcolonialism, Psychoanalysis or any contemporary critical approaches like Critical Race Studies, Queer Theory, and Reader-response theory. Students may be also invited to analyse film adaptations or any revision of Shakespeare's plays using any of the critical theories above.
