This module provides space for exploring a variety of critical and literary theories through critical
essays and their application to text. First, learners explore the development of theories such as
formalism, structuralism, psychoanalysis, Marxism, poststructuralism, feminism, queer theory,
postcolonialism. Discussions of these theories then lead to concerns central to applying literary theory
such as the nature of text, defining literary text, text/context, the status of the reader/spectator, and
connecting literary theory to a variety of contexts. Theories will be applied to a variety of text (any
subtypes of written, spoken, audio-visual) with a strong focus on specific extracts, sequences and/or
contexts. |
