This module introduces students to effective writing skills for delivery of content of a technical nature to
a non-technical audience. It will focus on the selection of appropriate form, structure, language and style
to convey information for a non-specialised audience in the actuarial context. The module will also cover
written skills for academic writing, including proper referencing, and professional report writing. Special
attention will be given to communicating in a multilingual context and issues related to translation from
one language to another (French to English). The module will also introduce students to oral
communication. They will learn about the different modes of speech delivery and how to make effective
use of verbal and non-verbal cues to enhance their oral presentations, including how to design impactful
visual aids. Emphasis will also be laid on perception and listening skills. |
