Description
Economic importance of the agricultural sector from independence to present days. The Food Import Bill: Impact on national economy and impact on food and nutrition security. Food self-sufficiency status of key agricultural commodities: key challenges and opportunities. Scarcity of natural, physical and human resources in the agricultural sector: The need for an optimal choice of alternative and economically viable sustainable agricultural production systems. Technological, scientific, physical and institutional barriers affecting supply of agricultural commodities of economic importance in Mauritius. Demand for agrifood products in Mauritius: The consumer perspective and expectations. The enabling environment for the agrifood sector: support public organisations (research and extension services); the role of private organisations. New Extension approaches. Emerging socio-economic issues.
