Description
Basic engineering science relevant to agriculture, soil-water-plant relationship. Soil water movement. Evapotranspiration and net water requirements. Deficit irrigation. Irrigation systems: surface, sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation. Irrigation system accessories. Planning and design of various irrigation systems based on soil-water-plant-climate relationships. Use, operation and maintenance of irrigation systems. Water logging and drainage. Rain water harvesting systems. Agricultural machinery: tractors, rotovators, mechanical planters and harvesters, and fertigators. Tractor Technology. Machinery performance and selection. Power sources. Field mechanisation. Soil tillage and implements. Pesticide sprayers and fertiliser applicators. Introductory remote sensing and Geographic Information System. Farm structures and farm buildings. Farm roads. Introduction to controlled environment technology in livestock and horticultural structures. Basic Engineering management: Understanding contracts, procurement and management. Project design, installation, maintenance and management.
