COMS 1105(1)- DIGITAL IMAGING
This module will provide practical experience in the process of digital image creation and manipulation for
output in print or screen form. Students will learn about the features of the camera and how to choose a
camera according to the required output. They will learn about the techniques associated with the use of
lenses, exposure, depth of field, shutter speeds, film, lighting, composition, and colour. They will be
exposed to digital imaging and digital darkroom. Students will be required to come up with a portfolio
every 5 weeks on special themes. Emphasis will also be laid on the acquisition, storage and manipulation
of images. Students will be introduced to appropriate Open Source and/or industry standard software
packages for the creation, correction, retouching and manipulation of digital images. They will explore

techniques that enhance or alter existing images with special care for ethical aspects involved in the process.
Other themes will include: the knowledge of human visual perception, image syntax, and aspects of visual
communication, image capture devices, acquisition of images via scanning, image resolutions and formats,
image adjustments and colour correction |
