This module is concerned with writing which spans both the 20th century and the contemporary
period. Some of the topics which students may examine are: the definition and function of terms such
as ‘modern’, ‘modernism’, ‘post-modernism’; the effects of war and technological change on literary
production and the link between art and politics. The overall exploration will enable students to
discuss literary preoccupations and styles in relation to selected postmodern fiction. Some of the
authors under study may include: Amis, Barth, Barthelme, Calvino, Carter, Eco, Mc Ewan, Rushdie. |
