This module provides a close- up of filmic text as artform, as industry and as cultural phenomenon.
Under the lens is a variety of such texts: it may include any avant-garde, and popular forms, covering
Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood, and other cinemas. Filmic texts will be approached by adopting
a number of theories applicable to visual textuality to engage with issues such as the nature of film as
audio-visual form, processes of encoding/decoding specific to the filmic text, the act of watching,
marketing cinema, visual narration, transmission of ideology |
