The module will focus on health and different meanings of health. The two major models of health namely the Medical and Bio-Psycho-Social model of health will be discussed and contrasted. Normal human development will be studied with focus being on developmental stages from infancy to old age emphasising motor, emotional and psychological development. The health care system will be introduced with emphasis on various health organisations in Mauritius, pimary health care, community health. Area Health Centres, occupational health, public health, World Health Organization, and private clinics. The impact of these health organisations on health care will be examined. Current trend in health will be examined: Communicable v/s Non-Communicable diseases, the concept of burden of disease, prevention, control & complications associated with NCDs. The focus will be on

implications for practice for health professionals. Health promotion, diversity and inclusion will be discussed - importance of health promotion and strategies, 'health care for all' will be discussed and limitations examined. |
