The module provides the students with an understanding of basic principles of chemistry to prepare them as biologists. Topics to be covered include: Thermodynamic foundations of phase equilibrium in component gaseous, liquid and solid systems; Thermochemistry; Chemical equilibrium and kinetics; Acid-base reactions; Gravimetry; Redox reactions and solubility product; Structure and bonding; Nomenclature of organic compounds; Reaction mechanisms using curly arrows.
