Description
Political History of SADC countries including Seychelles and Madagascar, since independence from colonial rule. 1990's end of Military and single-party rule. Emergence of Multi-party Democracy. Formation of SADCC, the SADC and its various protocols. Rule of law and separation of powers. Free Press. Human Rights practices. A fully executive head of state versus a Constitutional Head. Role of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, Function of the Parliament. Checking the executive. Question time; The law making process. Independence of the judiciary. SADC member states. Constitutional Guarantees and actual practice. Economic Development. The fundamental ideas and terminology microeconomics and macroeconomics. Economic Problems Demand, Supply and the Market. Elasticity of Demand; Costs and Production; Market Structure; National Income Accounting; Unemployment and Inflation; Balance of Payments, Exchange Rate and International Trade.
